1. Eligibility:
  Individuals at high risk of HIV infection who are enrolled in South Korea's National Health Insurance
  (1) Men who have sex with men (MSM) or transgender women
  (2) Individuals with an HIV-positive partner
  (3) Individuals with high-risk occupations. (e.g., sex workers or workers in alcohol-serving entertainment establishments)
     ※ There is no limit on the number of times support can be provided
     ※ Undocumented foreigners are not eligible

4. Support Provided
  (1) Full coverage for HIV tests (antigen/antibody tests)
  (2) Full coverage for pre-prescription testing for PrEP
  (3) Partial coverage for the cost of PrEP medication
    - The medication cost, excluding the 60,000 KRW per month, will be covered.
    - Coverage applies equally to in-hospital and out-of-hospital prescriptions, as well as insurance and self-payment
     ※ Cost for doctor visits, follow-up visits, additional tests, and remaining cost of PrEP medication will not be covered
     ※ A referral letter may be required for treatment at a general hospital, however the cost related to the referral letter will not be covered
 
5. How to apply for the assistance program
  (1) After purchasing PrEP, apply for the support program through the public health center in the area of residence personally
  (2) Submit the required documents in person or by registered mail

    - Original receipts for test and medication costs
        * Handwritten receipts are not accepted
        * When prescribed outside the hospital, submit documents verifying the purchase details (e.g., prescription bag, medication cost statement, receipt, etc.)
    - Detailed medical statement
    - A copy of your bank account book registered in your name
        * For banks that do not issue physical bank account books, please capture a screenshot from the bank's app showing your account number and name, then submit the printed copy

    - 본인 부담금 6만원 (1개월) 제외한 나머지 약값 지원
    - 원내/원외, 급여/본인 부담 100% 차이 없이 적용
     ※ 진찰료(초진, 재진) 및 추가 검사 비용, PrEP 약값 일부 본인 부담
     ※ 상급종합병원 진료 시에는 진료의뢰서가 필요하며, 진료의뢰서 관련 비용은 전액 본인 부담

  (1) 의료기관에서 진료 및 처방을 받은 후 본인 주소지 보건소에 본인이 직접 지원 신청
  (2) 방문 또는 등기우편을 통한 구비 서류 제출
     ※ 구비 서류는 반드시 사업기간 내 접수되어야 합니다.

        * 수기용 간이 영수증은 해당되지 않음

    - 본인명의 통장사본
        * 실물 통장이 없는 은행의 경우 은행 어플 내에서 계좌번호와 본인 이름을 확인할 수 있게 캡쳐하고 인쇄본 제출

PrEP(Pre-exposure prophylaxis)은 HIV에 감염되지 않은 사람이 예방제를 복용하여 감염을 막는 노출 전 예방요법입니다.
HIV 치료제이기도 한 항레트로바이러스제를 미리 복용하여 HIV가 체내에 침입하더라도 증식하지 못하고 사멸하도록 만드는 효과가 있습니다.
PrEP을 올바른 방법으로 복용하면 HIV 감염 위험이 99%까지 감소될 수 있습니다.

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a medication that prevents HIV infection. PrEP is designed for people who do not have HIV.
When taken as prescribed, PrEP (an antiretroviral medication also used to treat HIV) stops the virus from spreading in your body
and reduces the risk of HIV transmission through sex by about 99%.

PrEP을 할때 처방 전 검사 비용과 약 구매 비용이 필요합니다.
PrEP 의료보험이 적용되지 않을 때 한 정 당 약 13,000원으로 월 40만원 내외의 비용이 들지만 건강보험 적용 시 최대 70%까지 지원됩니다.
검사비의 경우 병원에 따라 조금씩 다릅니다. 하지만 일반적으로 큰 부담 없는 비용으로 검사를 받을 수 있습니다.

PrEP costs include pre-prescription testing for PrEP and medication.
Without insurance, a pill may cost around 13,000 KRW, totaling roughly 400,000 KRW per month.
With insurance, up to 70% of this may be covered. The cost of the screening before prescribing PrEP may vary depending on the hospital.

PrEP처방이 가능한 병원을 예약하고 방문해야 합니다. 다만 일부 병원은 진료의뢰서를 요구할 수 있습니다.
진료의뢰서는 동네 의원에서 받을 수 있습니다. 자세한 내용은 PrEP을 처방받을 수 있는 병원으로 문의하세요.
그리고 PrEP 처방 전 검사를 받아야 합니다. 해당 검사는 HIV 항원/항체검사를 기본으로 하여, 신장기능 검사, B형간염 항원/항체 검사, C형간염 항체 검사,
성매개감염병(병원마다 항목 상이) 검사 등을 함께 진행합니다.
이후 검사결과에 따라 의사와 상담을 진행하고 PrEP을 처방받게 됩니다.

의료보험이 적용되기 위해서는 한국의 국민건강보험에 가입이 되어있어야합니다. HIV 감염인인 성관계 파트너가 있는 경우에 의료보험 적용이 가능합니다.
그러나 보험 적용 여부는 최종적으로 의사가 판단합니다. 그러므로 우선 병원에 방문하여 확인하시기 바랍니다.

To be covered by insurance, you must have the Korean National Health Insurance.
If you have an HIV-positive partner, insurance may cover part of the PrEP costs, but your doctor determines your final eligibility.

PrEP을 의사의 처방에 따라 올바르게 한다면 콘돔을 사용하지 않아도 HIV에 감염될 가능성은 매우 낮습니다.
그러나 100%는 아니기 때문에 안전한 성관계를 위해서는 콘돔을 사용해야 합니다.
또한 PrEP은 HIV를 제외한 다른 성병을 예방할 수는 없기 때문에 PrEP을 하더라도 반드시 콘돔을 착용해야 합니다.

However, using condoms is important since PrEP does not guarantee 100% effectiveness, and there is still a risk of other STIs.
